"My 11 year old is super picky, it's really hard to find activities/camps she really enjoys and she LOVED the Summer Camp at Western. The staff is not just super knowledgeable and caring but they are masters at tailoring activities & times according to the group's needs & preferences. I wish every kid on the Island could experience at least one of WEA's camps."

In the past, the program ran at Camp Barnard in Sooke, 3202 Young Lake Rd, Sooke, BC V9Z 0J6 weekdays from 0915 - 15:15. This summer the program will be held at several local natural areas and parks. These parks may include Sea to Sea Regional Park, District of Sooke Parks, Matheson Lake & more. But don't worry, you will still pick-up and drop-off at the same time/place every day.
You need to have dropped-off or picked up your camper before the departure time. If you need to drop-off earlier or pick-up later, please let us know at least one week before the camp begins and we may be able to accommodate your needs. All participants are driven by professional drivers.

We believe that youth programming should be safe, fun and staffed by the best people in the industry.
"An awesome camp in a beautiful setting where kids learn outdoor survival skills, go on challenging adventures, and have lots of fun outdoors."
Above all, our day program is more fun than you can imagine! Youth get to experience so many different types of activities in an amazing outdoor environment! The wilderness areas and parks we use have massive lakes, streams, fields, forests, fire pits, cooking shelters, an archery range and many more ammenities! Participants learn about nature, camping skills, leadership and more. The best part - they have so much fun, they don’t even realize they are learning!
"I am an 11 year old girl who attended camp last summer. I learned how to start a fire with just a match and what I could find on the forest floor, I improved my archery skills and I experienced canoeing for the first time. We helped cook and set up shelter. Landon was very funny and nice. He made me feel welcome. It was super duper fun."
Modern youth do not get very many opportunities to learn life skills including how to lead others, manage conflict and think for themselves. Western Education Adventure’s summer day program focuses specifically on these life skills while teaching youth wilderness and outdoor adventure skills.
This list contains our main program activities, though specific activities may vary from week to week depending on the whether and group input:
• Leadership • Decision Making • Conflict Management • Group Management • Navigation • Canoe and Water Safety • Canoe Rescues • Swimming • Kayaking • Archery • Camping Practices • Food packing • Cooking • Fire building • Knife and Stove Safety
Western Educational Adventures takes safety seriously. Not only do we want our participants to have an exceptional time, but just as importantly, we want them to return home safe and sound. All of Western Educational Adventures staff are certified in high level first aid and have years of experience managing risk in the outdoors. You won’t find a more qualified staff team anywhere else!
"Our Daughter spent two weeks last Summer at Camp Barnard. She really enjoyed herself learning how to paddle in a canoe, make a campfire, and build a shelter. Landon is a great leader and his company makes it easy for kids to get out into the wilderness in a safe and inclusive environment."
WEA takes sickness and infectious diseases very seriously. Our policies and procedures regarding infectious diseases are science based and reviewed by medical professionals. Click on the button below to view our infectious disease policy.
