We understand that there is a lack of healthy extra-curricular programming available right now for kids in communities on Vancouver Island like Victoria, Nanaimo, Cumberland, Courtenay, Comox & Campbell River. WEA's outdoor activity homeschool & after school program is designed to give kids exercise, expose them to the outdoors and give them much needed time to socialize with their peers for a few hours each week. Activities include things like trail running, mountain biking, running games, snowshoeing, geocaching, archery, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, hiking & more!
Due to COVID-19 this program is only available to children and youth in Victoria, Comox or Courtenay BC that are in the same social bubble, such as cohorts, families, homeschooling groups, etc. We hope to re-open a general registration program as soon as it is safe to do so. Have a group of homeschool kids, cohort group or other Victoria kids group in mind? Book now!

In Victoria, we offer outdoor activities in the entire Capital Regional District. Most frequently programs occur in Saanich, Langford, Sooke, View Royal, The highlands, Colwood & Central Saanich. We utilize parks and outdoor spaces such as Mount Doug, Thetis Lake, Gowland Todd, Elk Lake, Sea-to-Sea Regional Park (Mount Quimper), Sooke Potholes and several Langford city parks. As Victoria is our hub we can offer programs any day of the week with a recommended length of 2 hours on weekdays with the occasional full day of outdoor activities, perfect for after school or for local Victoria homeschool groups.
In Nanaimo we use various local forest lands and local parks for our outdoor kids activities. As we run the majority of our programs in Victoria and secondarily in the Comox Valley, we have the capability of running programs for Nanaimo families but need to figure out details on a case-by-case basis.
In the Comox Valley we take advantage of all the amazing outdoor spaces like Seal Bay, Strathcona Park, Mount Washington, the Cumberland mountain biking trails, etc. This program is available in the Comox Valley on Fridays & Mondays only.
In Nanaimo we use various local forest lands and local parks for our outdoor kids activities. As we run programs in the Comox Valley on Fridays and Mondays, we have the ability to run programming in Campbell River on the same days.
It is essential that all children have the proper equipment as the program runs REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER. Exact equipment needed will very depending on the time of year, location, activities, etc. An example packing list can be found by clicking here.
We believe that youth programming should be safe, fun and staffed by the best people in the industry.
"My kids had a great time with Landon and his team. Both learned so much about the world around them and the outdoors. often I hear them quizzing each other on outdoor facts."
There are several options for how this program may look for your child's bubble. From 2 hours every week going trail running and doing nature activities to 3 days a week doing a vareity of activities each day. You tell us what outdoor activities you want, how many kids, what day and we will give you several options to choose from!
Above all, our one-of-a-kind outdoor after school care program is more fun than you can imagine! Youth get to experience many different types of activities in amazing outdoor environments! Instead of staying inside every day after school, children get to explore and experience unique natural areas featuring lakes, streams, fields, forests, beaches, fire pits, cooking shelters, archery ranges and many other ammenities! Participants learn about nature, camping skills, leadership and more. The best parts - they don’t even realize they are learning and they are staying active!
Modern youth do not get very many opportunities to learn life skills including how to lead others, manage conflict and think for themselves. Western Education Adventure’s after school outdoor program focuses on these skills and other life skills.
The name of the game is to keep children & youth learning, active, occupied, engaged and having fun. Activities vary depending on the weather, group and on the main focus of the program that day. The types of activities we typically run during our weekly activity program includes:
• Leadership • Decision Making • Conflict Management • Group Management • Route Planning • Nature Identification • Nature Appreciation • Navigation • Swimming • Camping Practices • Cooking • Fire building • Knife and Stove Safety
Western Educational Adventures takes safety seriously. Not only do we want our participants to have an exceptional time, but just as importantly, we want them to return home safe and sound. All of Western Educational Adventures staff are certified in high level first aid and have years of experience managing risk in the outdoors. You won’t find a more qualified staff team anywhere else!
WEA takes sickness and infectious diseases very seriously. Our policies and procedures regarding infectious diseases are science based and reviewed by medical professionals. Click on the button below to view our infectious disease policy.
